Big news for Volusia County homeowners: as of June 5, 2025, residential sheds of 480 square feet or smaller no longer require a building permit in unincorporated Volusia County. On May 6, 2025, the Volusia County Council approved a revision to Chapter 72 of the Volusia County Code of Ordinances eliminating the permit requirement for sheds of 480 square feet or smaller. The ordinance went into effect June 5, 2025.
