Best Shed For Florida Weather

Most of what’s written about sheds online was written for people in Ohio. Or Oregon. Definitely not for someone living through a Florida August with 95-degree heat, 90% humidity, and a tropical storm on the radar.
Florida is different. What you buy here needs to be built for here.
The Three Florida Shed Killers
- Humidity and Rot
Florida averages 70–90% humidity year-round. Untreated wood absorbs that moisture, swells, weakens, and eventually rots from the inside out. This is why cheap big-box shed kits fail within 5–10 years here. The wood simply isn’t treated for it. - Termites
Florida has some of the most aggressive subterranean termite populations in the country. Any wood not pressure-treated and protected from ground contact is a target. We’ve seen untreated shed floors destroyed in as little as 3 years - Wind
Central Florida sits in a high-wind zone. Even inland, tropical storms and hurricanes can push winds over 100 mph. A shed that isn’t properly anchored becomes a danger to your property and your neighbors.
What We Use – And Why It Matters in Florida
LP SmartSide siding – Engineered wood siding designed to resist moisture, fungal decay, and impact. It holds paint longer than standard wood and won’t delaminate in Florida’s humidity. Every shed we build uses it.
30-year architectural shingles – Thicker, heavier, and rated for higher wind speeds than the cheap 3-tab shingles on most sheds. In Florida’s daily afternoon thunderstorms, that difference is real.
Pressure-treated floor joists – Every board near or on the ground is pressure-treated. Non-negotiable in Florida. It’s the only defense against termites and moisture getting to your floor frame.
Hurricane tie-down anchors – Every shed is engineered and anchored to meet Miami-Dade wind standards – 175 mph, the highest hurricane wind rating in Florida. Your shed stays put.
Custom Sherwin-Williams colors – We match any Sherwin-Williams paint color so your shed looks like it belongs on your property, not like an afterthought. check – you pay monthly just like a storage unit, except at the end you own a permanent structure in your backyard.
What About Metal Sheds?
Metal shed kits from big-box stores are not built for Florida. The thin panels rust quickly in Florida’s humidity, dent easily, and turn into an oven inside (130°F+ on a summer afternoon). They’re also not engineered for Florida wind loads.
A professionally engineered metal building is a different conversation – but that’s a different product and a very different price.
What About Vinyl Sheds?
More moisture-resistant than standard wood and won’t rot – but the structural frames are often weak, they’re not truly customizable, and Florida’s UV exposure causes cracking and brittleness over time. A compromise product.
